Essence CLA. Dietary supplement in the form of capsules containing conjugated CLA linoleic acid.
Essence CLA is an excellent complement to supplementation in the period of shaping the figure and working on the muscles of your dreams. It works great during reduction periods, as well as during the final touches and preparation for sports competitions (e.g. body sports). CLA is a great complement to a properly composed diet and physical activity.
What is CLA?
CLA is a class of fatty acids containing 56 isomers with conjugated (stacked or adjacent) pairs of double bonds (1). "Conjugated linoleic acid" is a term used to describe a mixture of positional and geometric isomers of linoleic acid-containing conjugated double bonds. It is a group of naturally occurring fatty acids synthesised as intermediates in the biohydrogenation of linoleic and linolenic acid in animals' rumen, hence it occurs mainly in dairy products and ruminant meat (2).
CLA and lipid metabolism
Conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) is a polyunsaturated fatty acid found in animal fats such as red meat and dairy products. Only trace amounts of CLA are found naturally in plant lipids. CLA isomers activate various nuclear receptors and thus regulate the expression of genes related to lipid metabolism in various ways (3).
Does CLA affect body composition?
The scientific publication on the effectiveness of conjugated linoleic acid in reducing fat mass is very interesting. In conclusion, CLA was found to have a beneficial effect on the composition of the human body. Although this effect is small, it may be significant if it accumulates over time, especially in an environment where continuous, gradual weight gain is the norm in the adult population (4). One of the CLA isomers is believed to influence body composition, in part due to a reduction in lipid uptake by adipocytes (i.e., adipose tissue cells) (2).
CLA mechanism of action
Despite many studies, the exact mechanisms by which CLA affects lipid metabolism and adipose tissue are not fully understood. However, CLA is believed to modulate, inter alia, energy expenditure, fatty acid oxidation, lipolysis (breakdown and digestion of fatty compounds) and lipogenesis (formation of fatty compounds) (2).
